Klinkende Stad (Sounding City) is a leading European project in which art, sound and music are brought together.
In 2012, our focus is entirely on the relationship between sound and the public space. International sound art (brought to you) in parks and lawns.
Sound in the public space is not obvious. Unwanted sound often evokes extreme responses. A sound project by Marc Bain in Istanbul projected a mix of worldwide protests through loudspeakers in the street. After 6 minutes and 40 seconds, the project was stopped. Sound has a subversive power. How do people at the bus stop react to sounds that are different from what they are accustomed to?
The majority of the artists in Sounding City, however, find inspiration in nature.
"Sounding City: Public Sound” will be our most ecological exhibition ever. Quite literally so; this presentation will for example make the pollution in our rivers audible. Or have a garden generate its own soundscape.
Ever heard of a composition for a tree? Or an insect recording studio?
Take a journey into the wonderful world of public sound art.
Thank you to all our technicians for building Sounding City!
